Coping:  Support of OWS

From George Ure’s Urban Survival

and reach him here george@ure.net

You may notice this morning that there’s an “I support the Occupy Movement” banner at the top of UrbanSurvival. ( XANIEL’S NOTE : WE GOT ONE TOO. JOIN US !!)  I pondered this a bit, but eventually supporting OWS is the right thing to do.  Just so we’re clear, there are very simple reasons why…and a lot of this goes beyond OWS:

  • High frequency trading:  Once upon a time the stock market represented a reasonable approximation of the bid/auction process. High frequency trading as changed all that.  Today, the people who bought up most of the online brokerage outfits didn’t do so because of their love of good service: Most are in cahoots or have their own HFT operation.  Essentially, when I place a trade, I am not only having to size up a counterparty who actually owns the stock somewhere, I also have to size up how many computers are going to do what after I press the enter key.

  • Offshored Accounting:  Major transnational corporations are screwing America by putting their “corporate headquarters” in offshore tax havens beyond the enforcement mechanisms designed to protect Americans.  Go through the Dow 30, look at revenue and then look at taxes paid to the US and then compare that with your personal income tax rate.

  • Jobjacking:  Neither of the corrupt political parties has had the gumption (balls if you will) to call BS on taking well-paying jobs and sending them to India.  Anyone in their right mind would improve a leveling system of tariffs in order to either fund unemployment which has resulted from jobjacking OR give domestic producers a chance to compete.  Third world crap holes pay less than a buck-an-hour.  Transnationals play the spread and then cry “Poor!” as they skate on income tax.  Bullshit, pure and simple.

  • Mexican Trucks:  Once again, American jobs are being jobjacked by the Mexican trucks that are now sailing up US highways from Mexico.  Again, I point out that BOTH political parties are slurping at the trough of the lobbying groups that have hijacked what was once a Constitutional Republic for which we stand, yada, yada, yada…

  • Pandering to voter blocks:  For the first 200-years and immigration from umpteen countries, Americans were held together by a common language.  Now, with poor (or mostly “show”) border enforcement, the same trough-hoggers are pandering to the latest large (and many times illegal) arrivals in order to get blocks of votes.  What?  Did someone say bullshit?  Where is the spending on Danish as a Second Language in the upper Midwest?  Where’s my Scottish flag to fly?  Words like double-standards mean something?  Oh, and the NAFTA Highway and North American Union aren’t dead…they’re still in the works, it’s just going to be a slow frog-boil is all.

As long as corporations have taken over, anything that will fatten the corporate purse gets a green light (and a bunch of greenbacks to make it so) while anything that gets back to common language, well-informed population gets stomped.  Yes, this is why Michael Jackson’s doc is bigger news than our own government sending guns into Mexico which then get used on Mexicans and US citizens alike.  Where’s my blood pressure monitor?

It’s comforting to know that there’s “No evidence for extraterrestrials, says White House.”

The point of OWS is that there’s also no intelligent life in Washington, either.  Too many people have seen the signs: “I’ll believe corporations are equal to humans when Texas hangs one.”  Cat’s out of the bag…Mussolini has one World War II posthumously, with his government/corporation merger and see how well Italy is doing?

The roots of the Tree of Liberty have been poisoned by excessive cash flows.  And on that, I stand in solidarity with OWS.  We need to demonetized sociopolitical decision-making.

Being open minded, though, I will drop the rants when…

  • HF trading is banned

  • When the Federal Reserve is audited (including the gold in Ft. Knox!)

  • When all entrants for political contests have equal funding

  • When transnational corporations are taxed to the extent they’ve outsourced overseas

  • When Mexican truckers and their rigs are off American highways. Who’s country is this, right?

  • When Texas permanently gives up on NAFTA highways and ends the sale of toll roads, paid for by public money, being leased to foreign corporations

  • When naked shorting is ended

  • When the silver shorting manipulation yields big name crooks

  • When MF Global’s bust yields big name arrests and what about the clearing banks role?

  • When the US balances its budget with tariffs on foreign goods

  • When politicians turn down money and start voting what they promised back in the home district and

  • When politicians come back from Washington no richer than when they left for DC….

Then, and only then, will I shut up and stop calling for change.

OWS is a catalyst for open discussion and finding a new way forward because the one the corporatists are buying for their sole pleasure and profit through “buying politicians” is NOT the road Americans are going down.

So help us God.

AND ANOTHER SMALL BUT IMPORTANT TID BIT YOU MAY FIND OF INTEREST !~~ Xaniel777

Off to the Bunker :

Well, no time for humor this morning – time to finish cleaning under the bed to make room for all of us there when YU55 shows up.  Speaking of which, Nostradamus expert G.A. Stewart sends this:

George,

No doubt you have seen the info on the NASA 11133 kml that will lead you to what some are claiming may be an impact site for YU55.

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread737750/pg1

Interesting coincidences that have struck me about YU55.

1) It is almost exactly the size I had interpreted from a Nostradamus prediction.
2) That particular prediction said it would crash in Artois, a province in northern France that is roughly at 50 degrees of latitude.
3) The alleged Aleutian Islands Impact Zone is at 50 degrees of latitude.
4) The NASA designation for Elenin and the kml: 11133:
    a) The Japan earthquake 3/11/2011.
    b) The Nostradamus Code Number for World War III was 311.
    c) The dream that woke me up at 3:11 AM.

Pretty weird all the way around. But this is my big test of the Psy-Op factor. How so you ask?

Suppose 11/9/2011 passes uneventful, think of the enormous coordination and gears that turned to create what would be a planetary mind f***.

1) Someone engineered the NASA numbers to get Richard Hoagland in a rant and start the Internet chatter going.
2) Someone created the 11133 kml to lead people to the Aleutian Island coordinates.
3) Someone convinced a young military policeman stationed at Elmendorf in Alaska to undergo house arrest and submit to embarrassing news articles about his character.
4) Someone first conceived of all of this to run in conjunction with a full up test of FEMA and the emergency broadcast system, concurrent with a military exercise simulating a tsunami in the Pacific, all during the closest approach of an asteroid in over thirty years.

Wow, that’s a lot of bucks dedicated to a planetary mind f**. Let’s hope it is.

Kindest Regards,
Stu

Law enforcement means serve and protect

From The Intercept

The Examiner
William Heuisler

Law Enforcement should always mean serve and protect citizens…always.

Think about it: Jose Guerena would probably be alive today if Sheriff Dupnik’s multi-agency SWAT team had called the Tucson police for advice.

Case in point: Last Saturday a few Tucson police officers had a problem with a man with a gun in a house. There were five or six regular beat cops, no armored vehicles, no sirens, and no smashed-in doors. No bullets sprayed the neighborhood. They wounded the man and rendered aid. Nobody died.
According to KGUN 9 TV News, Tucson Police Officers went to a house and located a suspect, who threw a large rock out a window at officers and was generally uncooperative. Apparently the mother contacted police and warned her son was possibly armed with a rifle. Police say, as they were relaying information via radio, the suspect pointed a rifle at officers from inside the home.http://www.kgun9.com/news/local/133296763.html

SWAT was not needed. Police Officers backed away and waited until back up, in the form of three more officers, arrived. Ten minutes later, about 12:45, the suspect pointed the rifle at officers again. Oneof the officers shot the suspect. Tucson Police officers quickly administered first aid until paramedics arrived to take the suspect to a hospital. Nobody died.

Compare this with the Jose Guerena killing six months ago. Remember how, in service of a daytime search warrant, Guerena’s door was broken down and a dozen SWAT officers fired 71 shots into the house – all in less than a minute. The dying former United States Marine lay in his hallway for more than an hour before any public servant even attempted to render him aid.

Police are supposed to serve and protect. Most law enforcement officers serve the public unselfishly and with day-to-day heroism. The May 5th lapses and reactions of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department were due to police militarism, incredible mission overkill, and a serious lack of training.
Guerena died during service of a search warrant. He did not point a weapon at anyone. He bled out in his hallway while dozens of Sheriffs Deputies and paramedics watched from a safe distance.

But Sheriff’s and Pima County Attorney investigators say Officers were not at fault in the Guerena killing. One said Guerena pointed a rifle, and all the officers shot 71 times in self-defense. Apparently Deputies and Paramedics were too afraid for their safety to check Guerena’s condition for an hour.
Next search warrant, Pima County SWAT should call a few Tucson patrol officers.

Warmongers eager for more blood-letting

What a spectacle they make of themselves, whooping and stomping to the frenzied beat of Tel Aviv’s drum, their dumb-ass chant getting ever shriller

by Stuart Littlewood

Are we expected to believe that Israel’s leaders, given their lawless and belligerent track record, are saner than Iran’s Ahmadjinadad?

You can read about it on a British government website.

“The UK and many other countries have serious concerns about the Iranian Government’s policies,” says the Foreign Office, “its failure to address serious international concerns about its nuclear programme; its support for terrorism and promotion of instability in its region; and its continued denial of human rights…”

I really thought they were talking about Israel and had got the names muddled up. But no… “On Iran’s nuclear programme, we are actively seeking a solution through diplomatic engagement and sanctions to encourage compliance by Iran with the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and six UN Security Council resolutions.”

Wow, does this means that Israel, which Iran is supposed to be threatening, is an innocent victim of Iranian aggression, is a menace to no-one, is suddenly co-operating with  the IAEA and is now in full compliance with all those UN resolutions?

This is hot news!

The Foreign Office goes further: “Iran’s backing of Hizbollah in Lebanon, Hamas and other Palestinian Rejectionist Groups…”

Just a minute. What exactly is a “rejectionist group”? I had to look it up in the Oxford dictionary. A rejectionist, it says, is a person who rejects a proposed policy, especially an Arab who refuses to accept a negotiated peace with Israel.

Ah. So what are we supposed to call an Israeli who rejects a perfectly reasonable Arab peace deal… like “get off our land and there’ll be no trouble”? What do we call an Israeli who defies international law and denies the human rights of others? An Israeli who treats UN resolutions with contempt?

“Rejectionist” Israel

Rejectionism is an Israeli thing; it’s what they do, they specialise in it. Israel,  let’s face it, is king of the rejectionist business.

All this sabre-rattling and talk of pre-emptive strikes against Iran is getting on everyone’s nerves. Iran, after all, is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Israel is not. What does that tell us?

The Treaty dates back to 1970 so Israel has had more than enough time to show good faith and come on board with the other 189 State parties. The NPT has more signatories than any other treaty of its kind. The only refuseniks – OK, let’s stay with the Foreign Office’s new buzzword – the only rejectionists are India, Israel and Pakistan.

The British government says the international community must be prepared to “respond robustly” when a country withdraws from the NPT… “The NPT is not like any other treaty and the risks associated with its abuse are uniquely dangerous. We recommend immediate discussions at the UN Security Council if a country announces its intention to withdraw. The IAEA should be required to report immediately on the nuclear activities of that country.”

It’s common sense really. So what about countries, like Israel, that have stacks of nukes and refused to sign up to the NPT in the first place? What about the “uniquely dangerous risks” in Israel’s case?  Where’s the robust response? Is the UNSC addressing Israel’s rejectionism? Has the IAEA reported on Israel’s nuclear activities?

As a matter of fact the IAEA is quite bothered about Israel. The BBC reported yesterdayhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-11709428 … “On 18 September 2009, the IAEA called on Israel to join the NPT and open its nuclear facilities to inspection. The resolution said that the IAEA ‘expresses concern about the Israeli nuclear capabilities, and calls upon Israel to accede to the NPT and place all its nuclear facilities under comprehensive IAEA safeguards’…

“Israel refuses to join the NPT or allow inspections. It is reckoned to have up to 400 warheads but refuses to confirm or deny this.”

I’ve seen the 400 “deliverable” nukes figure before – it’s nearly twice Britain’s arsenal – also that European cities were targeted.

Israel is the third or fourth largest nuclear force in the world and the only one in the Middle East. A 2006/7 report by the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission says: “Most unofficial estimates claim that Israel possesses a nuclear arsenal numbering in the hundreds, possibly larger than the British stockpile. Israel is widely believed to possess both fission and fusion bombs. It has an unsafeguarded plutonium production reactor and reprocessing capability and possibly some uranium enrichment capability, along with various other uranium-processing facilities.”

It is the only state in the region that is not a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. It has signed but not ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. As regards biological and chemical weapons, Israel has not signed the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention. It has signed but not ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention.

So why is the focus on Iran and not rejectionist Israel? Israel’s incessant foaming at the mouth over Iran has nothing to do with the alleged remark by Mr Ahmadjinadad to “wipe Israel off the map” – a remark he never made anyway. Long before that, back in 2002 and 2004 Israel was urging the international community to target Iran as soon as it had finished in Iraq and to strip Iran of WMD.

Are we expected to believe that Israel’s leaders, given their lawless and belligerent track record, are saner than Iran’s Ahmadjinadad? Washington and London may believe such tosh but I doubt if anyone in the Middle East would. Or anyone else in Europe for that matter. A European Commission survey finds that the public believe Israel to be the biggest threat to world peace, greater than North Korea, Afghanistan or Iran.

Eighty per cent of Conservative MPs preach that Israel’s enemies are our enemies but who is listening?

War-war not jaw-jaw

Perhaps the looniest thing I have heard lately is the passage through Congress of the ‘‘Iran Threat Reduction Act of 2011’’.  Hidden away where it wouldn’t be noticed, under “General Provisions – Denial of Visas for Certain Persons of the Government of Iran” (Section 601), is this gem…

(c) RESTRICTION ON CONTACT. — No person employed with the United States Government may contact in an official or unofficial capacity any person that — (1) is an agent, instrumentality, or official of, is affiliated with, or is serving as a representative of the Government of Iran; and (2) presents a threat to the United States or is affiliated with terrorist organizations. (d) WAIVER. — The President may waive the requirements of subsection (c) if the President determines and so reports to the appropriate congressional committees 15 days prior to the exercise of waiver authority that failure to exercise such waiver authority would pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the vital national security interests of the United States.

It effectively bans diplomacy with Iran.  Neither the President himself nor the Secretary of State nor any US diplomat or emissary is allowed to engage in negotiations or diplomacy with Iran unless the President can convince the “appropriate Congressional committees” (e.g. the House Foreign Affairs Committee whose strings are pulled by AIPAC) that not doing so would present “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the vital national security interests of the United States”.

War-war is preferred to jaw-jaw. And it’s no surprise to discover that this nonsense was cooked up by Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Howard Berman (D-CA), who both lead the Foreign Affairs Committee.

How clever is it to abandon all the channels of normal diplomacy? Those who support the measure must be desperate for more bloodshed – as long as they personally don’t have to act as cannon-fodder. Who can forget the chicken-hawks who casually ordered troops into Iraq and Afghanistan but would never dream of donning uniform and picking up a rifle themselves?

The preamble to this junk piece of legislation states:

In the 2006 State of the Union Address, President Bush stated that ‘‘The Iranian government is defying the world with its nuclear ambitions, and the nations of the world must not permit the Iranian regime to gain nuclear weapons. America will continue to rally the world to confront these threats…” In February 2009, President Obama committed the Administration to ‘‘developing a strategy to use all elements of American power to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon… Iran is a major threat to United States national security interests.”

Is it really?

Circulating in the background for years have been rumours speculating on the whereabouts of nuclear warheads dumped by a US B-52 which crashed in 1991. Did freelancers salvage them? Was the nuke exploded by North Korea in 2006 one of these? Does Iran have some? Is this what the panic’s about?

Many people are quite sure that if the increasingly unhinged Israeli leadership, with finger on the nuke button, believed their unlawful ambitions in the Middle East were permanently thwarted, they would think nothing of taking the rest of the world to hell with them.

12 Facts About Money And Congress That Are So Outrageous That It Is Hard To Believe That They Are Actually True

By Michael Snyder
BlacklistedNews.com

Do you want to get rich?  Just get elected to Congress.  The U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives are absolutely packed with wealthy people that are very rapidly becoming even wealthier.  The collective net worth of the members of Congress is now measured in the billions of dollars.  The people that we have elected to the House and Senate are absolutely swimming in money.  Unfortunately, it is not easy to get elected to Congress.  In this day and age you generally have to be heavily connected to those that are very wealthy to get into Congress because it takes gigantic amounts of cash to win campaigns.  But if you can get in to the club, you pretty much have it made.  The numbers that you are about to read are very difficult to believe and they should deeply sadden you.  They show that Congress has become all about money.  Congressional races are mostly financed by wealthy people, most of the people that we elect to Congress are very wealthy, and they rapidly get wealthier after they are elected.  All of this money has turned our republic into something far different than our founding fathers intended.

The following are 12 statistics about money and Congress that are so outrageous that it is hard to believe that they are actually true….

#1 The collective net worth of all of the members of Congress increased by 25 percent between 2008 and 2010.

#2 The collective net worth of all of the members of Congress is now slightly over 2 billion dollars.  That is “billion” with a “b”.

#3 This happened during a time when the net worth of most American households was declining rapidly.  According to the Federal Reserve, the collective net worth of all American householdsdecreased by 23 percent between 2007 and 2009.

#4 The average net worth for a member of Congress is now approximately 3.8 million dollars.

#5 The net worth of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi increased by 62 percent from 2009 to 2010.  In 2009 it was reported that she had a net worth of 21.7 million dollars, and in 2010 it was reported that she had a net worth of 35.2 million dollars.

#6 The top Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, saw his wealth grow by 29 percent from 2009 to 2010.  He is now worth approximately 9.8 million dollars.

#7 More than 50 percent of the members of the U.S. Congress are millionaires.

#8 In 2008, the average cost of winning a seat in the House of Representatives was $1.1 millionand the average cost of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate was $6.5 million.  Spending on political campaigns has gotten way out of control.

#9 Insider trading is perfectly legal for members of the U.S. Congress – and they refuse to pass a law that would change that.

#10 The percentage of millionaires in Congress is more than 50 times higher than the percentage of millionaires in the general population.

#11 U.S. Representative Darrell Issa is worth approximately 220 million dollars.  His wealth grew by approximately 37 percent from 2009 to 2010.

#12 The wealthiest member of Congress, U.S. Representative Michael McCaul, is worth approximately 294 million dollars.

So how are members of Congress becoming so wealthy?

Well, there are lots of ways they are raking in the cash, but one especially alarming thing that goes on is that members of Congress often make investments in companies that will go up significantly if legislation that is being considered by Congress “goes the right way”.

This is called a “conflict of interest”, but it happens constantly in Congress and nobody seems to get into any trouble for it.

The following is video of Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes ambushing Nancy Pelosi about one particular conflict of interest involving credit card legislation.  As you can see, she does not want to talk about it….

As noted above, insider trading is perfectly legal for members of Congress.

A law that would ban insider trading by members of Congress has been stalled for years on Capitol Hill.

So has this been a significant benefit to members of Congress?

Well, there has been at least one study that appears to indicate that members of Congress have been much more successful in the stock market than members of the general public have….

A 2004 study of the results of stock trading by United States Senators during the 1990s found that that senators on average beat the market by 12% a year. In sharp contrast, U.S. households on average underperformed the market by 1.4% a year and even corporate insiders on average beat the market by only about 6% a year during that period. A reasonable inference is that some Senators had access to – and were using – material nonpublic information about the companies in whose stock they trade.

Of course all of this could just be a coincidence, right?

Meanwhile, members of Congress keep telling the rest of us that we are just going to have to cut back because times are tough.

For example, during an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, Nancy Pelosi actually claimed that we should try to encourage poor people to have less children because it costs the government so much money to take care of them….

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

This elitist attitude extends all the way into the White House as well.  Earlier this year, Barack Obama made the following statement….

“If you’re a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, or you might put off a vacation.”

Meanwhile, the Obamas are living the high life at taxpayer expense.  In a previous article I mentioned one outrageously expensive vacation taken by the Obamas that was paid for by our taxes….

“Back in August, Michelle Obama took her daughter Sasha and 40 of her friends for a vacation in Spain.

So what was the bill to the taxpayers for that little jaunt across the pond?

It is estimated that vacation alone cost U.S. taxpayers $375,000.”

There is a massive disconnect between what our politicians say and what our politicians do.

The high life is good enough for them, but the rest of us have got to “cut back” and suffer becomes times are hard.

But when it comes to money and Congress, the most corrupting influence of all is probably all of the campaign money that gets thrown around.

In America today, it takes gigantic mountains of money to run a successful campaign.

Sadly, the candidate that raises the most money almost always wins.  In federal elections the candidate that raises the most money wins about 90 percent of the time.

More than 5 billion dollars were spent on political campaigns back in 2008.

That represents a huge number of favors that need to be paid back.

In 2012, it is being projected that 8 billion dollars could be spent on political campaigns.

When big corporations and wealthy individuals shovel huge piles of money into political campaigns, it is generally because they expect something in return.

Most of those that get sent to Congress realize that they never would have won if wealthy donors had not showered cash on them.  Most of them understand that they should not bite the hands that feed them if they want the cash to keep rolling in.

Politics in America has become a game that is played by the elite for the benefit of the elite.

Average Americans have the perception that they are involved in the process and that their opinions really matter, but mostly it is just an illusion.

It is so sad.

Meanwhile, members of Congress rapidly get wealthier and average American families continue to suffer.  In fact, the standard of living in the United States has fallen farther over the past three years than at any other time that has ever been recorded in U.S. history.

But for members of Congress the good times just keep on rolling.

Just as it has been for most of human history, the rich rule over the poor.

Does anyone out there believe that we have any hope of changing this?
