Examiner – by Gregory Patin  Many people have heard that the mainstream corporate media lies to people.

But few know exactly how that is done.

As long ago as 2006, a study by The Center for Media and Democracy’s PR Watch in Madison publicized one technique – video news releases (VNRs).

While most VNRs are created by corporations with the intent of selling a product, the U.S. government uses them to sell its policies.

Dozens of television stations have been investigated for broadcasting VNRs produced by corporations or the U.S. government and passing them off as real news.

The use of VNRs without full disclosure of the source is illegal and carries a fine from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Television newscasts, which remain the most popular news source for most people in the United States, frequently air VNRs without disclosure to viewers, without conducting their own reporting, and even without fact checking the claims made in the VNRs.

Many of the corporate reports, produced by drugs manufacturers such as Pfizer, focus on health issues and promote the manufacturer’s product. Disclosure information regarding the source is sometimes removed when it is broadcast by the television channel, as was the case with Fox-owned stations in St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Miami and South Bend, IN.

Here’s one example of a corporation using a VNR, as reported by TV News Lies:

NEWS ALERT: A man survived a jump from a plane this afternoon. He was not wearing a parachute and he credits his new Nike Plane Jumpers with cushioning his fall.

Now let’s say that story is completely true. All the networks and printed media pick up the story. 

Front page, lead story.

Well, what they forgot to tell you was that the plane was a 2 seater plane, and it was on the runway, stopped, and the jump was from 3 feet off the ground.

Now the full story was available to all the media, but Fox News does not feel that those details are important.

That may be a great corporate plug for Nike, but it is nothing that is even close to the truth about what really happened in that event.

A bigger problem arises when the U.S. government uses VNRs to “sell” policies such as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A classic example is a VNR put out by the state department about Jessica Lynch.

It was the basis for a story published in the Washington Post, written by “journalists” Susan Schmidt and Vernon Loer (which has since been redacted once the truth came out):

Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army’s 507th Ordnance Maintenance company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said yesterday.

Lynch, 19, a supply clerk, continued firing at the Iraqis even after she sustained multiple gunshot wounds and watched several other soldiers in her unit die in fighting 11 days ago, one official said.

The ambush took place after a 507th convoy took a wrong turn in the southern city of Nasiriyah.

“She was fighting to the death,” the official said. “She did not want to be taken alive.”

Great story, but the only problem is that none of it was true.

The truth is, Lynch never fired a shot at Nasiriyah.

Her rifle jammed during the attack.

She suffered shattering injuries when a rocket-propelled grenade struck her Humvee, causing the vehicle to crash.

But she was not shot or stabbed.

The “official” VNR narrative of Pat Tillman, a NFL football player who became an army ranger and was killed while deployed in Afghanistan, was also proven to be false.

Citing “unnamed” officials as if they were reputable sources has become common in the corporate media and the range of VNRs is wide.

As quoted in the Independent UK:

“We know we only had partial access to these VNRs and yet we found 77 stations using them,” said Diana Farsetta, one of the group’s researchers. “I would say it’s pretty extraordinary.

The picture we found was much worse than we expected going into the investigation in terms of just how widely these get played and how frequently these pre-packaged segments are put on the air.”

Among other items provided by the Bush administration to news stations was one in which an Iraqi-American in Kansas City was seen saying “Thank you Bush.Thank you USA” in response to the 2003 fall of Baghdad.

The footage was actually produced by the State Department, one of 20 federal agencies that have produced and distributed such items. 

George W. Bush admitted to that practice in a press conference.

Another VNR used by the U.S. government was the staged, fake coverage of the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s statue in Baghdad.

The truth is that the jubilant crowd cheering the take-down of the statue was a rent-a-crowd from Saddam City, a poor neighborhood some distance away and the entire VNR was staged by army psy-ops.

According to an article by Peter Maas writing for The New Yorker:

Propaganda has been a staple of warfare for ages, but the notion of creating events on the battlefield, as opposed to repackaging real ones after the fact, is a modern development.

It expresses a media theory developed by, among others, Walter Lippmann, who after the First World War identified the components of wartime myth making as “the casual fact, the creative imagination, the will to believe, and out of these three elements, a counterfeit of reality.” As he put it, “Men respond as powerfully to fictions as they do to realities [and] in many cases they help to create the very fictions to which they respond.”

Many of these these outright lies elicit the intended response from Americans, as was apparent in the overwhelming public support for the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Many people continue to be oblivious to the fact that corporate-owned media and TV news lies to them.

One of the 14 defining characteristics of fascism is a controlled media.

That is obviously the case in the U.S., where journalists who are supposed to be doing their jobs and reporting the truth simply rebroadcast or reprint VNRs without any fact-checking.

SourceWatch recommends that Americans report suspected VNRs to the FCC after contacting the managing editor of the station in order to determine that it was indeed a pre-packaged segment from an affiliate.

Here’s how to file a complaint:

Go to FCC.gov. On the right side of the home page, under the column titled “Bureaus and Offices,” click on “Enforcement.” This takes you to the Enforcement Page.

On the right side of the page, under “What We Do,” click on “Broadcast Issues.”

On the next page, under “Information You Can Use,” click on the fifth line down that says, “Payola and Sponsorship Identification.”

There you will find the sections of the Communications Act that require broadcasters to disclose whether broadcasted matter has been aired in exchange for money, services or other valuable consideration.

The page contains a table listing enforcement actions that have been taken, with links to descriptions of those actions.

Below the table are instructions about “How to File a Complaint.”

According to the Independent UK, spokesman Craig Aaron from Free Press, another non-profit group that focuses on media policy, said more than 25,000 people have written to the FCC about the VNRs.

It will be interesting to see what happens when more and more Americans realize that much of their news is fake.

Will TV news outlets continue to lose viewers as more people turn to the internet for their news?

That seems to be the case.

According to a Pew Research Center report in 2011, viewership for Fox News declined by 11 percent, CNN plummeted by 37 percent, and MSNBC was down 5 percent.

No one likes to be lied to.

Feds Targeting Alternative Media In Information Warfare Campaign

Government documents reveal federal counter-intelligence agencies are targeting alternative news sites in an information warfare campaign.

After nearly a year-long struggle with USWGO reporter Brian Hill has been able to force the federal government to hand over documents a short list of documents revealing alternative media news sites being monitored.

The documents reveal that not only are the feds personalities and sites such Alex Jones and his websites but many sites are also being targeted in an information warfare campaign being conducted by US intelligence and counterintelligence .

Alex Jones has released a video about the documents and Paul Joseph Watson has posted and article on what the documents reveal about the DHS monitoring his sites.

So far their reports on the FOIA documents do not indicate they have uncovered the information warfare campaign being conducted in which they are being targeted but this article puts those pieces together.

While scouring through thousands of pages of FOIA documents released by the federal government to piece together the evidence of a coordinated nationwide crackdown on the Occupy Movement, I learned to pay attention to certain details that might normally be overlooked (see this, this, and this)

As such, the first thing I noticed was information in the footer of document 3 which, as I explain below, unearthed an information warfare campaign against alternative media sites.

First here’s a just released video form Alex Jones on the documents followed by an article on Infowars about the scandal which I will follow-up with additional analysis to pointing to information warfare being waged against Alex Jones by US Military, intelligence and counter-intelligence agencies.

Hundreds of pages of documents released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that the Department of Homeland Security monitored political opposition to the See Something, Say Something campaign, as well as tracking Infowars stories and user comments on a myriad of other issues while categorizing the website as “Right Wing Terrorism”.

Having initially requested copies of records in August 2011, “regarding any political profiling documents that specify what groups are monitored under fusion centers all over the country and which kinds of people are profiled,”

Brian D. Hill of USWGO.com finally received the documents recently after a year of back and forth communication with the agency during which he narrowed down his request to include search results which included DHS discussion of a handful of websites, including Infowars.com.

The documents contain email communications as well as intelligence reports circulated between different offices of the Department of Homeland Security as well as the Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A).

In most cases, the identities of individuals both sending and receiving the messages have been redacted.

A report dated January 24, 2011, marked “for official use only” and produced by the Amtrak Intelligence Team is entitled Opposition to “See Something, Say Something”.

The report notes how Infowars.com launched a campaign in opposition to the DHS program, which encourages citizens to report “suspicious activity” to the authorities, including via television screens at Wal-Mart stores which play a message from DHS chief Janet Napolitano.

The document notes how Infowars “claims” the campaign was based on the “V for Victory” symbol of French resistance to Nazi occupation in WWII, while implying that the movie V For Vendetta, as well as an incident in 2006 where Clay Duke spray painted a ‘V’ on the wall during a school board meeting in Panama City, Florida before shooting at board members, were motivations behind the campaign.

“Some people may associate the film in which a modern-day Guy Fawkes attacks a totalitarian regime in England with Jones’ campaign,” states the document.

The report includes screenshots of posters used in the campaign, alongside the text, “Alex Jones is calling on
people to place campaign posters in public places to counter a perceived “police state.”

Supporters also might write the letter “V” on public property as a protest effort.”

The report makes it clear that the growth and success of the campaign was monitored by federal authorities.

“Jones’ Facebook page offers 58 “V for Victory” posters that people can print, and as of 24 January, 1,840 people “liked” his “V for Victory” Facebook page. Over 135,000 “like” Jones’ personal Facebook page,” states the report.

The document also includes a photo of an activist placing a ‘V’ poster on a telegraph pole in support of the campaign.

“On Jones’ website PrisonPlanet.com, an individual posted his photo (pictured above) in support of the campaign. Over 60 responses to the campaign shared support,” states the document.

The report then quotes an individual with the user name ‘netwrkingman’, who commented, “Just got done with my flyer campaign, EVERY Wal Mart door pole, fast food drive thru and Star Bucks drive thru in my local 3 cities is now V’d up. Woo.”

The document also notes how aggressive TSA screening policies introduced in 2010, “Spurred increased criticism that the U.S. government has become a “police state” that is abusing individual liberty.”

A subsequent email sent the next day by an individual from the “Office of Intelligence & Analysis – U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Baton Rouge, LA,” states, “For your S/A if you haven’t seen this reporting from yesterday—the groups is trying to counter the DSH (sic) “see something, say something” campaign.”

Another DHS email contains an Infowars story about how the DHS’ promotional videos for its See Something, Say Something campaign go to great lengths to portray white, middle class Americans as the most likely terrorists.

 The article notes how, “No matter where you look, from East Germany, to Communist Russia, to Nazi Germany, historically governments who encourage their own citizens to report on each other do so not for any genuine safety concerns or presumed benefits to security, but in order to create an authoritarian police state that coerces the people into policing each other’s behavior and thoughts.”

The emails also expose how the Department of Homeland Security has been monitoring Infowars in relation to a number of other news stories.

An email dated April 6, 2009 sent to “SL_Field” contains an article by Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center about Richard Poplawski, the man who killed three Pittsburgh police officers during a shoot-out on April 4, 2009.

In the article, Poplawski attempts to lay the blame on Alex Jones for the shootings by claiming that “Poplawski was reportedly interested” in Alex Jones’ websites – Infowars and Prison Planet.

What Potok fails to divulge is the fact that Poplawski had left comments on both websites disagreeing with and denigrating Alex Jones.

When this was revealed, numerous large media outlets had to issue retractions withdrawing the claim that Poplawski was inspired by Jones, but the SPLC failed to follow suit.

One of the documents also covers the DHS’ reaction to an incident in January 2011 where a sticker was placed on the mirror inside a restroom at the Mitchell Courthouse, Baltimore City Circuit Court.

The sticker, which read “9-11 Was an Inside Job.Learn the truth at InfoWars.com PrisonPlanet.com Jonesreport.com,” prompted the courthouse to contact the DHS and ask for advice on whether “I&A, SLPO and other LE/IC partners have reported similar activities?”

“This is a promotional sticker from Prison Planet and Infowars: He’s a conspiracy theorist from back in the late nineties that gets some airplay from but no one else takes him seriously.

He believes that there’s a cabal of secret global elites that control the government through secret societies like Skull and Bones, Bohemian Grove, Masons, etc,” stated the DHS reply.

“The fact that this incident was even reported seems like a complete waste of time and paper, the fact that it was even reported at all is really pretty scary,”notes Donna Anderson. 

“This was merely a sticker, a thin piece of paper glued to a mirror, but because the message suggested a government cover-up, it was deemed a “threat” and reported to the DHS.”

A long email from April 2009 containing numerous news articles makes reference to how some on the political right were claiming that the DHS had begun to demonize conservatives as part of a “plan” to move away from any focus on Islamic terrorism”.

The email contains articles from World Net Daily, the American Spectator, Atlas Shrugged, Stormfront, as well an Infowars story entitled Secret DHS Doc Predicts Violence in Response to New Gun Restrictions.

This article also forms the body of a subsequent email circulated within the DHS and sent to “A&P Managers” which also contained an attachment entitled, “Homeland Security Assessment Rightwing Extremism Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.”

The email notes how, “This must be the article (see attached email chain) that generated the calls to the NOC this morning.”

The article describes how a DHS document warns federal and local officials to expect “terrorism” in response to planned firearm restrictions.

The document also contains dozens of comments from respondents to the articles, highlighting how the DHS is also closely monitoring remarks made on the Internet.

An email from August 2009 contains an article which includes a reference to an Infowars story about preparations for martial law in the event of a mass pandemic.

Another document contains a power point-style report entitled “Right Wing Terrorism”.

Included along with images of racist scrawlings on restroom walls, white supremacists, neo-nazis, and other race-hate groups is the Oath Keepers organization, the Sovereign Citizen movement and a screenshot of the Infowars.com front page next to the words, Hardin – American Police Force – Conspiracy theorists believe this is the new location for the FEMA camp.”

This refers to investigation conducted by Infowars in September 2009 during which it was revealed that a private security force had begun patrolling the streets of Hardin, Montana after the group was originally contracted to provide security at a previously empty detention center located in the town.

Another email from February 2010 which includes the acronym “FYI” (for your interest), contains an Infowars story by Kurt Nimmo documenting how police officers in Canada had been caught posing as anarchists in order to provocateur violence and demonize legitimate protesters.

Another email dated February 19, 2011 contains a link to Infowars article written by Steve Watson and Paul Joseph Watson entitled Don’t Be Evil? 10 Ways In Which Google Runs The World, which describes how Google has grown to become “literally an a corporate arm of the intelligence community.”

An email dated May 3, 2011 contains an L.A. Times article which discusses how “conspiracy theorists” doubt the official narrative behind the death of Osama Bin Laden following the dubious tale about how the Al-Qaeda leader was “buried at sea”.

These documents illustrate the fact that the Department of Homeland Security is slowly evolving into a KGB-lite style secret police outfit that seems to be just as concerned about monitoring political free speech as it is about genuine threats to the homeland.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also admits that it has documents which contain political profiling pertaining to Alex Jones, Infowars as well as the Drudge Report, but has thus far refused to release them despite facing a Freedom of Information Act request.

Now here’s my analysis of what they missed and hopefully others will pickup where I leave off, as I am only one person and do not have the time to follow all of the research leads contained in these documents.

Let me turn your attention to FOIA Document 3:

While this document appear to reveal little it is actually a treasure trove of information in a much larger picture and here’s  why.

First notice the footer begins with a legal notice indicating citing the title for US Copyright Fair Us .

From this we can assume that most likely the sender is working for a for profit corporation with deep pockets for lawyers and this information is most likely being distributed as part of contract work for spooks from a government contractor.

Moving beyond assumptions, which we can certainly can read further into, the last sentences provides us with a golden nugget – Provided by G2-Forward.

The first Google search result for G2-Forward reveals this email is part of  ‘Access Intelligence List’ provided by G2-Forward which is a non-profit company based in Washington DC.

It is described as an Open Source Intelligence e-mail list containing unclassified intelligence information for Military Operations, Intelligence, Counterintelligence and Emergency Response fields.

While the the ‘list has no connection to or affiliation with any department or agency of the United States Government’ the list consists of information provided by its members whose professions are restricted to those who ‘aid professionals engaged in the business of operating this nation’s national security establishment’.

More specifically the “list is open to personnel engaged in United States Government intelligence,counterintelligence, military (active/reserve) and information warfare operations‘

Personnel allowed to joing the list are “DOD/OSD personnel working in communications , crisis and consequence management operations” as well as  “Retired Military from the above fields”, and  “Select law enforcement”.

Additionally “subject matter experts and academics” are also eligible to apply for membership but their is no guarantee of approval.

Another rabbit who here is Richard Bloom’s email address which is listed under the domain name TAIC.NET which appears has to be a shell internet service provider whose services have been split into pieces and swallowed integrated separate larger providers including Earthlink and Inter.net., but this requires a separate investigation

A quick Google search on for G2-Forwards domain name g2-forward.org doesn’t return any results for a website but it does return results for email communications from G2-Forward list that have been published online.

(Note: the email addresses and domain’s listed in this communications should all be aggregated into a list for further research)

Several of those communications were sent from Board G2-Forward member and ‘information warfare expert’ Rich Forno, who coincidentally uses  the term ‘infowarrior’ as his handle and his website infowarrior.org.

Notably, on Alex Jones Infowars urges listeners to join  become infowarriors and join the inforwar against government propaganda.

Other FOIA documents reveal that many more websites being targetted beyond Alex Jones across a wide range of the alternative media spectrum.

For example, in Doc 4, begins:

Stormfront posts are the 2nd/3rd threads posted. Then I have the WND piece and Infowars… and American Spectator.

Then the next two think the timing of the report was to demonize the right before the Tea Parties on 4/15 – and lastly Atlas Shrugged (a fairly popular conservative site) that insists this is part of the “plan” to move away from any focus on Islamic terrorism …

Notably, pro-government shills trolled the author of the post at swordattheready article which reports on the DHS targeting tea party and other groups.

To spell out what’s happening here intelligence agents engaged in counterintelligence (CoIntel) using an ‘open source intelligence list’ to identify targets to engage in information warfare against and are caught in the act.

To the normal observer reading these comments they would have no idea these are government trolls in action.

Here are some comments:

• You guys are nuts

• You wing nuts are the greatest threat to the liberty of all Americans

• Well, during the Bush era and the warrantless wiretapping and violations of Constitutional protection against warrantless searches, the neo-coonservatives were fond of proclaiming “if you’ve done nothing wrong, then you’ve nothing to worry about”.

• Can I please make a plea to anyone who has read this DHS statement?

  Anyone claiming to be a Christian, please do not feed into the hands of these comments. Please do not act out violently! Please do not plan attacks! By doing so you will be proving right what every non-Christian has said about us and casting our Lord Jesus in a terrible light to those who need him most.

• Im pretty sure this DHS report is targeting *radical hate groups*, people who are willing to kill innocent or uninvolved people to further their agenda.

  Also, I don’t see the word “conservative” used at all in this report. Are the terms “right-wing extremist” and “conservative” used interchangeably now? I think it it quite a conspiratorial stretch to assume that.

  This is targeting KKK-like or other radical or supremacist groups, not Joe The Plumber or George Will.

• I still think you are ascribing this Bush Administration-requested document to be far more wide-reaching and insidious than it is.

• The comparison to Hitler regarding the trade unionists and communists? Not sure where to start with that. When they start putting people in concentration camps I guess? I don’t see the DHS dragging Joe the Plumber, George Will or Rush Limbaugh off to camps, or being able to shut down any 2nd Amendment rights.

Major General: Why Are Domestic Government Agencies Purchashing Enough Lethal Ammunition to Put 5 Rounds In Every American?

Why Do They Need So Much Ammunition?

Preface: There might be an innocent explanation. But given recent trends, this is worrisome.

Retired Major General Jerry Curry wrote Friday:

The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirms that it is purchasing 174 thousand rounds of hollow point bullets to be delivered to 41 locations in major cities across the U.S.

Those against whom the hollow point bullets are to be used — those causing the civil unrest — must be American citizens; since the SSA has never been used overseas to help foreign countries maintain control of their citizens.

What would be the target of these 174, 000 rounds of hollow point bullets?

It can’t simply be to control demonstrators or rioters.

Hollow point bullets are so lethal that the Geneva Convention does not allow their use on the battle field in time of war.

Hollow point bullets don’t just stop or hurt people, they penetrate the body, spread out, fragment and cause maximum damage to the body’s organs.

Death often follows.

Potentially each hollow nose bullet represents a dead American.

If so, why would the U.S. government want the SSA to kill 174,000 of our citizens, even during a time of civil unrest?

If this were only a one time order of ammunition, it could easily be dismissed. But there is a pattern here.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has ordered 46,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition.

Notice that all of these purchases are for the lethal hollow nose bullets. 

These bullets are not being purchased and stored for squirrel or coyote hunting.

This is serious ammunition manufactured to be used for serious purposes.

In the war in Iraq, our military forces expended approximately 70 million rounds per year.

In March DHS ordered 750 million rounds of hollow point ammunition.

It then turned around and ordered an additional 750 million rounds of miscellaneous bullets including some that are capable of penetrating walls.

This is enough ammunition to empty five rounds into the body of every living American citizen.

Is this something we and the Congress should be concerned about?

What’s the plan that requires so many dead Americans, even during times of civil unrest?

Has Congress and the Administration vetted the plan in public.

All of these rounds of ammunition can only be used to kill American citizens, though there is enough ammunition being ordered to kill, in addition to every American citizen, also every Iranian, Syrian or Mexican.

There is simply too much of it. And this much ammunition can’t be just for training, there aren’t that many weapons and “shooters” in the U.S. to fire it.

We have enough military forces to maintain law and order in the U.S. even during times of civil unrest.

This is a deadly serious business.

I hope I’m wrong, but something smells rotten.

And If the Congress isn’t going to do its duty and investigate this matter fully, the military will have to protect the Constitution, the nation, and our citizens.

Why are government agencies doing this?

Major General Curry asks a troubling questions:

We have local police, backed up by each state’s National Guard, backed up by the Department of Defense.

So in addition to all these forces why does DHS need its own private army?

Why do the SSA, NOAA and other government agencies need to create their own civilian security forces armed with hollow nose bullets?

This may sound like a conspiracy theory …

But remember that Senator Daniel Inouye said in 1987:

There exists a shadowy Government with its own Air Force, its own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself.

 The Federal Reserve – which is not exactly federal (and see this)– also has its own police force.  See this and this.

Chalmers Johnson called the CIA the President’s private army.

And that’s nothing compared to JSOC.  As John Glaser wrote in February:

For the past decade, we’ve seen the rise of a secret, unaccountable U.S. military force … Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) is an unwieldy private army at the command of the President, and him only.

And they conduct military and spy missions all over the world, never receiving formal congressional approval ….

“Without the knowledge of the American public,” wrote Nick Turse back in August, “a secret force within the U.S. military is undertaking operations in a majority of the world’s countries.

This new Pentagon power elite is waging a global war whose size and scope has never been revealed.”

According to a recent Congressional Research Service report, JSOC forces “reportedly conduct highly sensitive combat and supporting operations against terrorists on a world-wide basis.”

As the New York Times this week reported:

The Special Operations Command now numbers just under 66,000 people — including both military personnel and Defense Department civilians — a doubling since 2001.

Its budget has reached $10.5 billion, up from $4.2 billion in 2001 (after adjusting for inflation).

Over the past decade, Special Operations Command personnel have been deployed for combat operations, exercises, training and other liaison missions in more than 70 countries.

Since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Special Operations Command sustained overseas deployments of more than 12,000 troops a day, with four-fifths committed to the broader Middle East.

JSOC operates outside the confines of the traditional military and even beyond what the CIA is able to do.

But it goes well beyond the war zones. In concert with the Executive’s new claims on extra-judicial assassinations via drone strikes, even if the target is an American citizen,

JSOC goes around the world murdering suspects without the oversight of a judge or, god forbid, granting those unfortunate souls the right to defend themselves in court against secret, evidence-less government decrees about their guilt.

As Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh said at a speaking event in 2009:

Congress has no oversight of it. It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on.***

Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving.

That’s been going on, in the name of all of us….

[Marc Ambinder told Wired]:

There are legal restrictions on what the CIA can do in terms of covert operations.

There has to be a finding, the president has to notify at least the “Gang of Eight” [leaders of the intelligence oversight committees] in Congress.

JSOC doesn’t have to do any of that.

There is very little accountability for their actions.

What’s weird is that many in congress who’d be very sensitive to CIA operations almost treat JSOC as an entity that doesn’t have to submit to oversight.

It’s almost like this is the president’s private army, we’ll let the president do what he needs to do.

An End-Run Around the Constitution?

Remember, we’ve gone from a nation of laws to a nation of powerful men making laws in secret. 

A nation where Congressional leaders themselves    aren’t even allow to see the laws, or to learn about covert programs.

A nation where Congressmen are threatened with martial law if they don’t approve radical programs.

National security powers are being used to help big business, to the detriment of the American people.

Veterans returning from the front lines are labeled “potential terrorists”, to the horror of both the Republican and Democratic leadership.

This is not surprising, given that tyrannical regimes always crumble when the footsoldiers refuse to carry out draconian measures.

Indeed, active duty military personnel are big Ron Paul supporters. 

And see this.  Because liking Ron Paul – as well as liking liberty or the Founding Fathers – may get one branded as a potential terrorist these days, there may be some friction between active military folks and the government as well.

We’ve been in a continuous state of National Emergency for 11 years. 

The Constitution has so thoroughly been shredded that it is – literally – unclear whether we are still living in a constitutional form of government.

Because military folks are sworn to defend the Constitution, many still would not allow the imposition of overt, full-scale fascism without a fight.

As such, Major General Curry’s speculation is chilling, indeed:

Is the purpose [of the lethal ammunition purchases] to kill 174,000 of the nation’s military and replace them with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) special security forces, forces loyal to the Administration, not to the Constitution?

Former Marine Brandon Raub Is Locked In A Psych Ward Over His 9/11 Facebook Posts

Here’s more about what he said on his Facebook page. I really don’t see what he said that was so bad.

Business Insider  The former Marine who was detained by the federal government over Facebook posts critical of the government is being held in a psychiatric ward, Peter Bacqué of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

“I’m currently in John Randolph in the psychiatric ward being held against my will,” Brandon Raub said in a telephone interview with the Times-Dispatch. “[Authorities] were concerned about me calling for the arrest of government officials.”

Raub noted that he has been raising questions about 9/11 and signed a petition to reopen investigation of the terrorist attacks.

According to Raub’s mother, authorities from the FBI, Secret Service and Chesterfield County PD came to their door on Thursday evening, questioned Raub about his Facebook posts, then handcuffed him and placed him in a Chesterfield PD squad car before taking him directly to John Randolph Psychiatric Hospital in Hopewell, Va.

Raub, 26, has not been arrested.

Both FBI Richmond spokeswoman Dee Rybiski and Secret Service Washington spokesman Max Milien said that there are no charges against Raub.

When asked about why Raub was placed in a psychiatric ward, Rybiski said that the FBI “had nothing to do with that” and that the FBI typically doesn’t “make determinations such as that.”

“We went out to interview him because of complaints that our office had received about people coming across his posts and perceiving them as threatening so our office along with Chesterfield County Police Department on Thursday,” Rybiski told us. ”When we left we had not arrested him, we had not placed our hands on him, we did not detain him and we did not charge him.”

Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said: “The Secret Service assisted the FBI with the interview. He was not arrested by the Secret Service. The Secret Service will continue to monitor the situation. We have no further comment at this time.”

When asked who ordered Raub to be taken to the psychiatric ward, Leary pointed out that Raub was placed in a Chesterfield PD police car but gave no further details.

Chesterfield PD released this statement (emphasis ours):

Chesterfield Police assisted federal authorities in their efforts to interview Brandon J. Raub on Thursday, Aug. 16.

After speaking to Raub, officers believed him to be in need of further evaluation.

Chesterfield officers at the scene contacted Chesterfield Mental Health Crisis Intervention. 

Crisis workers recommended that police take Raub into custody and bring him in for evaluation.

Chesterfield police took Raub into custody for evaluation in accordance with Virginia State Code § 37.2-808 Emergency custody.

Raub was placed in handcuffs after he resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.

Raub was evaluated by a Chesterfield mental health official, who determined that he should be held under a temporary [detention] order and transported to John RandolphMedical Center for additional evaluation.

Raub was not arrested and he faces no criminal charges in Chesterfield.

As this is not acriminal matter, Chesterfield police have no further comment.

Raub said he “talked to a Secret Service gentleman for 20, 30 minutes” and had a hearing today at the John Randolph Medical Center. 

Two family members and someattorneys were allowed to attend.

Radio host Adam Kokesh reports that Raub’s hearing “is over but he is still being held at the John Randolph Hospital against his will.”

Lawyers from the Rutherford Institute, who represented Brandon Raub during the three-hour heariing, will reportedly release a statement this evening.

“I really love America, and I think that idea that you can be detained and sent somewhere without due process and a lawyer … is crazy,” Raub said.

Raub told the Times-Dispatch that he served as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2005 to 2011, was a combat engineer sergeant and does not own a gun.

His mother said he returned from Afghanistan about a year ago and does not have PTSD.

His Linked-In profile lists his interests as “Investing in Gold in Silver, Owning a Silver Mine, Owning Oil Wells, Owning Land and Agriculture” and says he owns a small business through Numis Network, which he describes as “a MLM or Multi Level Marketing Company that sells silver and operates around a program called the ‘Silver Coin of the Month.’

I sell silver directly, and offer the opportunity for individuals to create a business for themselves.”

Raub wrote five articles about economics and the Richmond Liberty Movement for the website Don’t Tread On Me.
